What is Minimalism?

The definition of minimalism is:
1) a trend in sculpture and painting that arose in the 1950s and used simple, typically massive, forms.
2) an avant-garde movement in music characterized by the repetition of very short phrases that change gradually, producing a hypnotic effect.

If you google Minimalism, you’ll see a few articles about painting and music...but mostly it’s about stuff. So, what is the point of Minimalism? Well, let’s start backward.

What ISN’T Minimalism?
It’s not about just up and getting rid of stuff.
It’s not about being hip, trendy and cool.
It’s not about living in the smallest space that you can find.

SO WHAT IS IT?
I’ve spent time listening to podcasts, reading and trying to understand what Minimalism is. To me, it’s a really simple definitition. It’s living intentionally, purposefully, and having everything in life serve a purpose. You see, all too often, we’re buying, keeping and doing things to impress others.....who really don’t even notice or care whether we impress them or not. And this affects us physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially, in relationships and so much more. Hence why this blog isn’t going to be just about stuff or music. There’s so much more to it, and it all overlaps!
